El Monte's Recycling Success Story Recycled Content Fair 2001!

Coming September 27 Recycled Content

Fair 2000 Community leaders, local business persons, City of El Monte personnel, school administrators, and recycling and procurement officials from neighboring cities and counties came together on October 19, 2000 for the second annual Recycled Content Fair. More than 600 people participated in this unique event which included vendors of recycled content products and educational workshops. The fair was held at the El Monte Community Center and was free to all attendees.

A variety of recycled content products were on display. High quality plastic lumber, recycled latex paint, remanufactured toner supplies, remanufactured electronic products, recycled content carpet and floorcoverings along with playground surfacing made from recycled tires were some of the products showcased. In addition, the resources of the California Integrated Waste Management Board, Los Angeles County Department of Public Works and California State Department of Conservation were available and staff were on hand to answer questions, take comments and distribute literature.

The California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) and Los Angeles County put on seminars for public works directors, state and local agencies, and recycling coordinators during the trade show. For example, one of the seminars was conducted by the State Agency Buy Recycled Campaign Division (SABRC) and will focused on new regulations and compliance with Assembly Bill 4, which requires state agencies to buy recycled. SABRC invited state agency procurement officers from throughout the Southern California region. In addition, Other workshops were put on by the City of El Monte, CIWMB Office of Local Assistance and Los Angeles County Rubberized Asphalt Technology Center.
